It’s apparent that you, dear readers, love strawberries. While the berries are just finishing their high season in the upper reaches of the South, we have all enjoyed their seasonal sweetness signaling the start of the best the summer has to offer.
Although I enjoyed them in many a salad, pie (and even cocktail glass – here’s looking at you, Paul Calvert), it seems a lot of you baked a very specific cake with your seasonal strawberries, that is to say, the Strawberry Filled Cake with Fresh Strawberry Buttercream from our recipe archives. This recipe is now number one on our site, as more of you clicked on its page than on any other recipe we have cataloged.
And it’s easy to see why. The simple 1-2-3-4 cake with just the right touch of berry elegance was originally provided by Sugar Bakeshop in Charleston, South Carolina, one of our perpetual favorites. And we can’t help but shout out to our Associate Art Director Jennifer Hitchcock, whose image of the cake is as much still life art as culinary art.
