We resisted using the tired headline “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” but well, it is. And hot toddies are you know, hot. And this classic cocktail prep is enjoying a bit of a renaissance, even in sunny Jacksonville, Florida. But in Jax, it’s not quite cold enough for a crackling fire, and with the white sands and beach umbrellas minutes away, you’re rarely in the mood for a toasty tipple. Johnny Schaefer of Jax’s Moxie Kitchen + Cocktails invited us for a Fireside Chat and served toddy-time for beach lovers: apple cider, cinnamon, and a glug of bourbon, but tempered with some added ingredients and cooled down over ice.
Wrap up in a blanket by the fire pit or on the back deck. It’s the weekend.
