Watching the news, you can think that the world is falling down around us. Not counting the weird popularity of Sharknado, we have some real problems with many aspects of our society—I’ll let you fill in with exactly what popped into your mind when you just read that phrase.

But most of us have pretty good days most of the time. Sure, we all have challenges, we all have tragedies, and we all have disappointments. But there are good things happening too, and sometimes even fueled by you. Here are five reasons from our archives why it’s okay to be hopeful. Happy Memorial Day.
