It is easy to see why some foods fall out of fashion. For instance, tomato aspic, which my grandmother used to make with V-8 juice, comes immediately to mind. At the same time, it’s easy to see why some foods remain classics.

When I was a little girl, my mother would take me shopping at the Famous-Barr department store in St Louis. While we were there we would stop for lunch at the store’s café. My favorite dish was their French Onion Soup. It was so good that it has made me a lifelong French Onion Soup fanatic.

Feed your passion for French Onion soup this weekend. Couple this hearty soup with an Apple, Radish, and Brussels Sprout Salad with Pomegranate and Blue Cheese Honey Vinaigrette from Vivian Howard then finish with a decadent chocolate pecan chess pie.
