$1,000 Mint Julep

The countdown to the Kentucky Derby has begun and May 4th will be here before we know it. This Southern tradition has taken place over the last 138 years and is beloved by millions of Derby fans worldwide. Along with the beautiful horses and stealthy jockeys will come the elaborate hats, beautiful red roses and, of course, mint juleps. Woodford Reserve has taken the official drink of the Kentucky Derby to a whole new level with the one-of-a-kind $1,000 Mint Julep that can only be described as luxurious and extravagant.

These meticulous hand-engraved Mint Julep Cups feature the most exquisite mint julep ingredients in the world, including premium bourbon from Woodford Reserve. Details about this year’s cup and ingredients will be released on April 15th when they go on sale and are available on a first-come, first-buy basis. While $1,000 may seem steep for a cocktail, keep in mind that proceeds from the cups benefit a different equine and humanitarian cause each year. This year’s recipient will be announced on April 15th as well, but so far this Woodford Reserve tradition has raised over $354,000.

Should you choose to personally participate in this tradition, be sure to make it to the presentation of the Cups on Derby Day at Churchill Downs to celebrate the tradition of the Kentucky Derby while supporting a great cause. The Cup can be passed down for generations or collected over the years. Think of it as your personal Kentucky Derby Trophy (we won’t tell anyone you’ve never ridden a horse).
