When I was a growing up, my favorite thing about Easter, next to my chocolate Easter bunny and new white patent leather shoes, was dying Easter eggs. No matter how many times I use white vinegar, the smell of it still takes me back to dyeing Easter eggs. I love watching the color pellets dissolve in the water and vinegar solution and watching the eggs as they take on the bright pink and blue colors.

This year though, I want more. I am ready to toss aside the Paas egg dye kit and go instead to a natural egg dye using things like turmeric (the spice that gives mustard its yellow color) and beets. Fortunately, this method also calls for white vinegar as well as many items that you probably already have in your spice cabinet and refrigerator. The only caveat to using this method of egg dyeing is that is takes a bit more time for the eggs to take on the beautiful hues but they are worth the wait!
