Junior Level Designer

The Local Palate Magazine is seeking a Junior Level Designer with 1-3 years experience with strong graphic design skills (photography skills a plus). This role will report directly to the Art Director and will work closely with the editorial, marketing, sales and digital teams to ensure a high standard of visual brand continuity across all platforms, effectively and efficiently.

Responsibilities include:

– Working closely with the Art Director to plan, design and execute all aspects of any design needs across all print & digital platforms.
– Updating and maintaining files, master templates, styles and branded elements.
– Design revisions, creating print/digital ready layouts, copy edits and preparing files for final press production.
– Assisting art director with photo research, selection and outsourced image requests.
– Managing photo assets, color corrections and proofing.
– Concept and design layouts according to brand templates and styles for both digital and print materials
– Collaborate with the Art Director to develop new design concepts and work flow efficiencies.


– A bachelor of art degree or equivalent work experience.
– A strong portfolio with relevant work.
– Positive mindset, strong interpersonal communications and collaboration skills.
– Knowledge in page layout, typography, editorial grids, style sheets and templates.
– Basic photography, file sizing, image quality and photo editing.
– Well-organized, with an attention to detail, good problem-solving, time management, and excellent communication skills.
– Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat) and MS Office.
– Understanding of all phases of design production and processes.
– Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines with changing priorities.
