Hotel Bardo’s redbrick turrets overlook Forsyth Park in Savannah, Georgia, where guests laden with luggage pour in for a luxury stay. The 149-room hotel in a late 19th-century Victorian-Romanesque mansion welcomes visitors from all over the world to Savannah’s historic district. The terracotta building was originally a single-family home, then a funeral parlor, and then a different hotel before becoming Hotel Bardo in 2024. Apart from a variety of rooms and suites, guests can enjoy the heated outdoor pool and poolside bar, Bar Bibi, spa and wellness center, and on-site Italian restaurant, Saint Bibiana. The Cooking School at Saint Bibiana offers classes for those who want to brush up on pasta making, learn about regional wines, or cook with their farmers market finds. Locals and guests can join Club Bardo, a private social club with access to the pool, clubhouse, fitness center, and priority dining reservations.

The Neighborhood
Steps from the hotel is Forsyth Park, a focal point of downtown. The 30-acre greenspace is shaded by old oak trees draped in Spanish moss and dotted with people strolling through the farmers market on Saturday mornings and lounging on picnic blankets on sunny afternoons. The historic district is also home to the River Street Boardwalk along the Savannah River; the Mercer Williams House Museum, a mansion of art and history; and the picturesque Jones Street lined with colorful houses lit by gas lanterns.

The Food Scene
Next door to the hotel is Saint Bibiana, an upscale Italian bistro. This coastal concept serves cuisine that goes beyond the South’s traditional red sauce Italian. Hotel guests and locals can make a reservation to enjoy dishes like housemade campanelle pasta with bottarga for dinner and the Bardo burger with tomato jam and Gruyère for brunch. Bar Bibi offers Mediterranean drinks and bites like brick-oven pizzettas or gelato to be enjoyed by the pool. The lobby bar, Green Room, serves creative cocktails and coffee.

The Digs
Guests can choose from the pool view suite, terrace loft suite, or the Bardo suite, along with standard double queen and king rooms. The pool view suite is the star of the show, opening onto a private garden with lounge chairs and an umbrella, leading to the pool and Bar Bibi. Accommodations feature HDTVs, custom artwork, in-room dining, a snack drawer, a minifridge, and signature bathrobes.
