Welcome to The Local Palate. This Privacy Policy explains how Peninsula Publishing, LLC, d/b/a The Local Palate (“The Local Palate,” “we,” “us”), collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you visit thelocalpalate.com, subscribe to the magazine, sign up for our newsletters, shop the Local Palate Marketplace, or otherwise interact with us. It also describes the rights available to California residents under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) and the regulations of the California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA) that took effect January 1, 2026.
A. Categories of Information We Collect
Personal Information
We collect personal information that identifies, relates to, or could reasonably be linked with you or your household, including:
- Identifiers — name, postal address, email address, phone number, account username, IP address
- Commercial information — subscription history, products or services purchased from the Marketplace, purchasing tendencies
- Financial information — payment card number, expiration date, CVV, and billing/shipping address (processed via our payment processor; we do not store full card numbers)
- Internet or network activity — browsing history on our site, pages viewed, links clicked, interaction with emails
- Geolocation data — general location inferred from IP address
- Audio, visual, or similar information — photos or video taken at Local Palate events in which you may appear
- Inferences — preferences and characteristics derived from the above, used to personalize content and marketing
We do not intentionally collect Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, precise geolocation, biometric information, health information, or other data classified as “sensitive personal information” under the CCPA, except to the limited extent payment card data is treated as sensitive; that data is used solely to complete your transaction and is not used to infer characteristics about you.

- Directly from you — account registration, orders, newsletter sign-ups, contest or survey entries, emails to us
- Automatically — via cookies, pixel tags, and similar tracking technology when you use our site or open our emails
- From third parties — advertisers, business partners, sponsors, service providers, data partners, social media platforms, and data aggregators/resellers
B. How We Use Personal Information
- Fulfilling subscriptions, orders, and account maintenance

C. How We Disclose and Share Personal Information

- Service providers — payment processing, shipping/fulfillment, email and text distribution, website hosting and analytics, customer authentication, and security, under contracts that restrict their use of your information to the services provided to us
- Advertising and marketing partners — to develop, manage, and measure advertising campaigns, including interest-based (behavioral) advertising
- Data partners — data aggregators and resellers who provide us demographic or interest information to help us understand our audience
- Social media platforms — if you interact with our content there
- Legal and safety disclosures — in response to a court order, subpoena, or other legal process; to prevent fraud, injury, or harm; or in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or bankruptcy
“Sale” and “Sharing” Under California Law
The CCPA defines “sale” and “sharing” broadly — “sharing” specifically includes disclosing personal information to third parties, such as advertising networks, for cross-context behavioral advertising, even where no money changes hands. Based on our use of interest-based advertising, targeted marketing, and data partners described above, The Local Palate likely “shares” personal information (such as identifiers and internet/network activity) with advertising partners as defined by California law and may “sell” personal information to data partners/resellers. We do not sell or share the personal information of consumers we know are under 16 years of age without opt-in consent as required by law.
D. Your California Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident, the CCPA (as amended by the CPRA and 2026 CPPA regulations) gives you the following rights with respect to your personal information:
Right to Know/Access — you may request the specific pieces and categories of personal information we have collected about you, the categories of sources, the business or commercial purpose for collecting it, and the categories of third parties with whom we have disclosed, sold, or shared it, covering the preceding 12 months.
Right to Delete — you may request that we delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain legal exceptions.
Right to Correct — you may request that we correct inaccurate personal information we maintain about you.
Right to Opt Out of Sale/Sharing — you may direct us not to sell or share your personal information. We provide a “Your Privacy Choices” / “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link on our website, and we honor opt-out preference signals such as the Global Privacy Control (GPC) automatically, without requiring you to submit a separate request. When you opt out, we will display a visible confirmation that your request has been honored.
Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information — to the extent we process sensitive personal information beyond what is necessary to provide goods or services you requested; you may limit that use.
Right to Non-Discrimination — we will not deny goods or services, charge different prices, or provide a different level of quality because you exercised any of these rights.
Right to Appeal — if we decline a request, you may appeal the decision by contacting us using the information below; we will respond to your appeal within the time required by law.

We will verify your identity before completing a request to know, delete, or correct, using information you have already provided to us (such as matching your email address to our records). You may designate an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf; we may require proof of the agent's authorization and may still require you to verify your own identity directly with us. We will respond to verifiable requests within 45 days, with a possible 45-day extension where reasonably necessary; we will notify you if an extension is needed.

E. Other State Privacy Laws
Residents of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws may have similar rights to know, access, delete, correct, and opt out of targeted advertising or sale of personal information. You may submit requests under these laws using the same contact information above, and we will honor valid requests consistent with applicable law.
F. Cookies and Tracking Technology
We and our advertising and analytics partners use cookies, pixel tags, and similar technologies to recognize your browser, remember preferences, measure site usage, and deliver interest-based advertising. You can control cookies through your browser settings, and we recognize the Global Privacy Control signal as described above. Some features of our site may not function properly if cookies are disabled.
G. Children's Privacy
Our website is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers we know are under 16 years of age; where we have actual knowledge a consumer is between 13 and 16, we will not sell or share their personal information without their affirmative opt-in consent (or a parent's/guardian's consent if under 13).
