In a new cookbook, Firepit Feast, author Diana Yen puts food on the fire

Diana Yen—food stylist, cookbook writer, and photographer from Ojai, California—came up with the idea for her cookbook, Firepit Feast: Adventurous Recipes for Live-Fire Cooking (Artisan Books, 2025) after discovering a passion for live-fire cooking on a camping trip during the pandemic in 2020. “I realized how much I didn’t know about fire and heat, which are so essential to cooking,” Yen says. “So I set out to challenge myself. I wanted to be able to cook just as well over a fire outdoors as I did inside on a stove.”
