Vereen Memorial Historical Gardens
Little River
Make your way to Little River, just below the North Carolina state line, to visit the memorial gardens that include hiking trails, a boardwalk, and a gazebo. Go for a bike ride along the trails or stroll along the boardwalk for marsh and maritime forest scenery. Your dog is welcome on a leash. Best of all, entrance is free.
Pine Lakes Golf Course
Book a tee time at Pine Lakes, Myrtle Beach’s first golf course. The course opened in 1927 and has remained a local favorite. Enjoy a view of the city skyline while you play a round of golf just a half mile from the ocean. Stay for lunch at The Robert White Pub, Pine Lakes’ restaurant, and grab a seat outside.
Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge
Conway
Established in 1997, Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge provides a home for more than 200 species of birds and offers recreation including fishing, hiking, mountain biking, birding, and canoeing along the river, lake, and swamp. The refuge also has a picnic area and boardwalk for visitors.
Myrtle Beach State Park
Located in a maritime forest, Myrtle Beach State Park is an escape from the city with beach access, a nature trail, campgrounds, and a fishing pier. After a hike, grab an ice cream cone from the gift shop and walk along the pier. Admission can be purchased on-site.
The Shot Pouch Greenway
Sumter
Walk, jog, or bike along this 3.1-mile paved path that winds through Sumter. The Shot Pouch Greenway connects Dillon Park with Swan Lake-Iris Gardens and provides better access to parks and neighborhoods for locals and visitors alike. Access the path from three major trailheads, each with free parking.
