Owned by local group Winyah Hospitality and operated by Southern hospitality powerhouse Indigo Road, this 56-room property opened in spring of 2024 and features a coastal-inspired interior from Charleston-based firm Jenny Keenan Design. The hotel faces Front Street in downtown Georgetown, with views of the waterfront and marina access for guests who wish to arrive (or depart) by boat. Décor is balanced between the dramatic lobby arch and hall to the elevators, accented with “Birds Tapestry” wallpaper by Iksel from Schumacher, cypress wood paneling, and art by David Boatwright, and the more muted rooms, which echo these Lowcountry nature themes with earth tones and neutrals. The outdoor waterside bar, Eliza’s, is a perfect prequel to dining at the hotel’s restaurant, The Independent, which offers an ingredient-driven menu plus an impressive bar and pastry program.

The Neighborhood
A walk of just a few blocks takes you to Georgetown’s scenic Harborwalk, four blocks of waterfront strolling with breezy views and access to restaurants and boutiques along the Sampit River. Stop at The Rice Museum at one end of the boardwalk for an education in the region’s art and history with a focus on Gullah Geechee contributions to the area. Great breakfast spots like Indigo Bakery are just a few minutes’ walk from the hotel’s front door.
The Food Scene
Seafood shines on executive chef Thomas Vance’s menu at The Independent, named for a family-owned seafood company of the same name that operated on the location for 80 years. Start with a Low Tide or High Tide to enjoy peel-and-eat shrimp, oysters, deviled crab salad, and other raw bar delights; the scallops with morel mushrooms are a revelation, as is the key lime pie with torched meringue. And if the weather’s nice, enjoy a cocktail before or after dinner at Eliza’s, the outside bar named for Eliza Lucas Pinckney.
The Digs
Fifty-six curated guest rooms and suites offer water view and balcony options; décor is elegant but relaxing with elements that echo themes of the region, from wicker lampshades to unique wallpaper with patterns of coastal flora and fauna. In addition to amenities like lush robes and a full-size hair dryer, rooms also include a clothing steamer, Mozza coffee brewing bags, and custom fabric headboards.
