Getaway
The Shelby
The colorful retro aesthetic of The Shelby in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, makes for a perfect beach getaway.
By: Emily Havener
Just a few blocks from the heart of Myrtle Beach is a new kind of high-rise: voco The Shelby, fresh off a full-gut $35 million renovation of three beachfront towers. The result is a charming retro space, with tasteful turquoise and flamingo-pink accents and tropical prints blended with beachy neutrals like wicker headboards, light fixtures, and ottomans. With 241 guest rooms and suites, there are plenty of options even during high season, but with a boutique vibe. Guests have access to the property’s beachfront pool, lazy river, and a lawn games area. There’s also direct ocean access, and vibrant sunrise murals make the hotel easy to spot when you’re coming back from a walk along the beach.
