Freshly ground pepper, to taste
Salt, to taste
1 teaspoon chile powder
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons butter
4 (6-ounce) fresh salmon fillets, without the skin

- Mix together spices in a small bowl. Pat fillets on both sides with seasoning mixture.
- Heat a large nonstick or cast-iron skillet over medium heat. Add oil and butter.
- Cook fillets in pan, 2 to 3 minutes per side, until blackened.
