Apple Brown Betty

Ingredients

3 Granny Smith apples

2 cups sugar

⅓ cup brown sugar

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

Pinch garam masala

Pinch salt

1 tablespoon lemon juice

For topping

¼ cup brown sugar

¼ cup all-purpose flour

¼ cup butter, chilled and diced

Pinch salt

Directions

  1.  Peel and slice apples to ¼-inch thick.
  2. Place in a pot with all ingredients and place over medium heat.
  3. Let apples steam for 5 minutes and then remove from heat. Divide among 4 ramekins. Refrigerate to cool.
  4. Mix topping ingredients together.
  5. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  6. Once ramekins are cool, crumble topping onto apples. Place in oven for 5 minutes, then under broiler until golden brown.
