In the fall, Granville County, North Carolina comes alive with festivities like the NC Hot Sauce Festival, Creedmoor Music Festival, the Masonic Homecoming, and, of course, the spooky-fun Haunt Farm. Spring brings out the Viking Experience, Central NC Highland Games, CultureFest, and the Butner Summer Festival. For many, warm weather also signals the perfect time to get outdoors, enjoy nature, do a little shopping, and indulge in some great local eats—all in one day. Located just north of the Research Triangle region of North Carolina, Granville County has so much to offer with activities spread across charming small towns.

A day well spent in Granville County
Start your day in southern Granville, in Creedmoor, with breakfast at Sunnyside on Main. Their breakfast sandwiches and specialty coffees are the ideal pick-me-up. As the day progresses, their menu expands to include sandwiches and exceptional ice cream.
Next, make your way to Lake Rogers, just northwest of downtown Creedmoor. This 175-acre lake features picnic shelters, a playground, boat rentals. Whether you’re fishing from the pier, paddling a boat, or just enjoying a stroll in the woods, it’s a peaceful way to connect with nature.
From there, head north to Oxford, Granville’s county seat. Stop in for lunch at Strong Arm Baking Co., located in a beautifully restored historic building. The menu features breakfast, creative sandwiches, and fresh baked goods made with locally sourced ingredients.
Oxford’s charm extends beyond its food. The Main and College Street Historic Districts are home to over 200 properties representing more than two centuries of architectural history. A self-guided walking tour here is a must.

Prefer to shop? Oxford delivers. Angel Wings Bookstore & Bistro, nestled in a 1901 home, is a cozy spot for children’s books, local authors, coffee, and barbecue. The Home Decorator Shoppe is your stop for affordable gifts and home design inspiration, with expert help to transform your space. Vinyl lovers will appreciate OX4D Music, a local gem offering new and used records, CDs, DVDs, and music-related gifts. Their relaxed vibe and listening station make it more than just a shop—it’s a hangout.
Cap your day at Tobacco Wood Brewing Co. A favorite local hangout, the brewery serves up craft beer alongside hearty plates like flatbreads, sandwiches, and the legendary “Landmine Nachos.” With its relaxed atmosphere and welcoming patio, many consider it Oxford’s front porch.
If a relaxing cocktail is more your style, head down the street to Oxford Oaks Distillery & Verdigris—an upscale restaurant and distillery crafting small-batch whiskey, rum, and vodka. With unique bars and multiple tasting areas, it’s the perfect place to unwind with friends over a finely made drink.
So take a step into Granville County—a place full of personality, rich in experiences, and truly Uniquely Carolina.
