The Dark and Stormy

2 ounces Cruzan Black Strap Rum

Ginger Beer
(preferably Fever Tree or Mine Root)

Lime Wedge

Candied Ginger

This is another classic we tweaked slightly to take it to the next level. My wife and I got married on St. John; we fell in love with these drinks while there. We got home and thought, how do we make it better? I hate the idea of doing things just because they have always been done a certain way. With the dark and stormy, everybody thinks you have to use Gosling’s and then crack a can of ginger beer and…presto. But I prefer using Cruzan Black Strap rum; it has all these undertones of winter spices. We make our ginger beer from scratch at Dogwood, but I recommend Fever Tree or Mine Root for the home bartender. [box]
  1. Pour 2 ounces over ice Cruzan Black Strap and top with ginger beer.
  2. Garnish with lime wedge and candied ginger. Presto.
