Latin Restaurant Weeks, a national initiative and celebration that highlights Latin restaurants, chefs, cafes, coffee shops, food trucks, and bakeries in cities across the country, will kick off its inaugural year in Greater Washington from May 3 through May 17. Dozens of participants will offer special deals and menus showcasing flavors and culinary techniques from more than 10 Latin countries represented throughout the DMV Beltway.
Latin Restaurant Weeks will highlight the culinary businesses and the stories behind them, like D.C.’s award-winning Peruvian Brothers and the women-owned tamale pop-up La Patrona Tamales y Comida Mexicana in Maryland, fortifying their connections to the community.
“Latin Restaurant Weeks is coming in during a crucial time for these local restaurants,” expressed Karinn Chavarria-Luckett, co-founder of Latin Restaurant Weeks. “With rising costs and a myriad of economic challenges, the hospitality industry is facing insurmountable hurdles. Supporting these local Latin eateries means saving jobs, preserving tradition, supporting families, and providing loving morale to the community through hospitality; this initiative is paramount for sustainability.”
Diners will have a variety of Latin American cuisines to enjoy from countries such as Brazil, Peru, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Mexico, and more. The growing list of participants includes D.C.’s Michelin-starred El Secreto de Rosita, The Grill From Ipanema, La Famosa, Peruvian Brothers at La Cosecha Latin Market, Qui Qui DC, Serenata cocktail bar; Maryland’s El Pollo Rico, La Patrona, and Cielo Rojo; Virginia’s
Abuelita’s, Inca Social, Los Chamacos, and Sabores Tapas Bar, and many more.
