Shim and Raquel will collaborate with Cash Wednesday, May 8th and Thursday, May 9th on a six-course dinner with seatings at 5:30 and 8:30. Reservations can be made via Resy beginning at noon on April 26th.

This collaborative dinner series welcomes culinary friends from all disciplines to the Scoundrel table for a multi-course meal, this time, celebrating Korean-American cuisine – and the newest restaurant to open by one of New York City’s most award-winning Korean-born chefs.

Born and raised in the Korean province of Jeollanam-do, Sungchul Shim, who grew up cooking in his family’s kitchen for large gatherings and parties, attended the Culinary Institute of America, before launching into America’s most highly lauded French and Japanese kitchens – Le Bernardin, Per Se, Morimoto, and Neta in Greenwich Village.

Shim achieved the rare distinction of gaining a Michelin star for two separate restaurants in two years. In October 2019, Sungchul opened his first solo project Kochi, offering a nine-course tasting menu of Korean skewered dishes, and in 2021, opened Mari in Hell’s Kitchen, with a tasting menu of street food inspired Korean hand rolls. The more casual “Little Sister” Mari Ne opened in 2023.

This year, Shim plans to open his largest restaurant yet, Korean steakhouse, Gui, set to open very soon in the Theater District.

“After starting as line cooks together in Thomas Keller’s kitchen at Per Se, I am thrilled to be back in the heat of service with Chef Joe. What a beautiful celebration of success and camaraderie. I cannot wait to introduce my food to a whole new family.”

Thomas Raquel joined Shim’s restaurant group as Executive Pastry Chef and Chef de Cuisine after serving at renowned Chef Eric Ripert’s three Michelin-starred Le Bernardin. The Los Angeles native began in LA institutions like Lucques, AOC and Water Grill before mentorship at Thomas Keller’s French Laundry, a stage in Paris with the world-famous pastry chef Pierre Hermé, and at Laurent Gras’s L2o in Chicago. After he directed the pastry program at the two Michelin-starred Acadia, Raquel accepted one of the most coveted pastry-chef jobs in the world at age 27, at New York City’s Le Bernardin. This James Beard Foundation “Outstanding Pastry Chef” is known for his precision, imaginative style, and his “obsession with seasonality.” Robb Report noted, “His creations are Insta famous for a reason.”

Two of the six courses will offer desserts from Raquel.

“Friends In Mischief” will be offered in Scoundrel’s private dining room. Dinner is priced at $125/person + gratuity and tax with an optional wine pairing each course at $55. Tickets can be purchased on Resy.com.

Since its inception, “Friends In Mischief” has welcomed Marcin Krol from Maison in Paris, former Per Se Chef de Cuisine Corey Chow, Eunjo Park, most recently the Executive Chef at Momofuku Kawi and one of “Food & Wine's Best New Chefs” in 2020, and Luis Martinez of Tequio Foods.
