Hotel Hartness

Peace and Quiet

Concepted by Greenville’s Hartness family on nearly 500 acres of green space accumulated over the past 70 years, this hotel retreat northeast of the city is fast becoming a popular destination for resort-style vacationing just a few hours from Atlanta and Charlotte. The former Hartness home has been renovated as a stunning lobby, breakfast area, lounge, and bar designed by C+ CT Design Studio and Sims Patrick Studio and featuring original art hand-selected in partnership with Art Houzze. The on-property farm sources fresh eggs and produce for the hotel, and guests also have access to a 180-acre nature preserve. Although downtown Greenville is within easy access, if you’re looking for peace, relaxation, and excellent dining, there’s no need to leave the premises.

The Neighborhood: The hotel is tucked away from the adjacent community urban village, and the private grounds offer multiple ways to unwind and recharge, from treatments at Spa H to 15 miles of woodland walking trails, a generously sized outdoor pool open April through September, and a fitness center. A short walk will take you to the community village center with dining and shopping options; downtown Greenville is a 20-minute drive or Uber ride away.

The Food Scene: Enjoy a cocktail and one of the bento-style starters on the menu at the hotel bar, The Captain. A short walk across the outdoor lounge area takes you to Patterson Kitchen + Bar, a destination in its own right. The menu by executive chef Tanner Marino makes fresh produce the star in dishes like the seasonal farm vegetables salad and seared salmon with cucumber caper relish. Dine at the chef’s counter to watch chef de cuisine Gianna Smutzki and her team compile dishes as colorful as they are delicious. Or take a short jaunt to the village center for an upscale bar menu at the One5.

The Digs: The hotel’s 73 rooms and suites, including four on-site at the spa, are as lush and peaceful as the grounds, with muted but stylish décor and signature amenities like Illy coffee. Luxuriate in a walk-in shower and soaking tub (ADA-compliant options are also available), or spring for a suite with a ground-floor terrace or a private balcony overlooking the outdoor pool and waterside nature trails.
