Founded in February 2023 by the Morgantown Board of Parks and Recreation (BOPARC), Eureka Café is part of the Wiles Hill Community Center and was designed to be an inclusive gathering place for the Morgantown community.

In addition to Eureka Café, the Community Center is home to other BOPARC initiatives including a community art studio, the Debora D. Palmer Art Gallery, and a fitness area. The center also serves as a hub for various community programs and activities, fostering a welcoming environment for people of all ages to connect and engage.

In keeping with BOPARC’s mission and their desire to provide the local community with a healthy menu, local chef Sue Hartman created a unique, whole grain-focused philosophy that is the driving force behind every menu item at Eureka. Today, Eureka Café is run by head chef Lauren Hartman, a Morgantown native with more than 20 years of restaurant experience who is committed to sourcing locally from farms, vendors, and cultivators for the café’s menu, and to preserving the legacy of ancient grains and promoting their nutrient-rich benefits.

“To us, being a whole grain-focused café means incorporating these unique flour blends and grains into our cuisine, both sweet and savory,” Lauren says. “Our house blend of whole grains embodies the likes of barley, quinoa, sorghum, spelt, and farro. In our pastries you will see a variety of flours including spelt, which we use for our quiche with spelt crust, and einkorn flour that we use in our cannolis.”

With vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options, Eureka Café aims to cater to everyone, reflecting its community-centric roots and BOPARC’s commitment to inclusivity. In addition to its emphasis on health-consciousness, the menu is delightfully indulgent. Guests can enjoy items such as loaded peanut butter crunch toast served on house blend multigrain bread, a savory mushroom panini with edamame pesto on whole wheat focaccia, and elegant whole-grain desserts like two-layer honey buckwheat cakes topped with fluffy buttercream frosting. At Eureka Café, you can expect exceptional quality, a distinctive atmosphere steeped in history and art, and a menu crafted with heartfelt passion and creativity.
