Master Sommelier and restaurateur June Rodil and her restaurant group Goodnight Hospitality have launched multiple award-winning restaurant concepts, including March in Houston. Their latest, The Marigold Club, takes inspiration from the dining clubs of Mayfair England, delivering primarily French cuisine with a British sensibility. Set in the heart of the Montrose neighborhood, the room is awash with eye candy like the lush and vibrant hand-painted mural that wraps the walls and delicate, floral, custom-designed Italian light fixtures. The space is both feminine and opulent, making you feel like royalty.

To be expected, Rodil’s wine list here is hefty and full of undiscovered finds, but when in a space like this, martinis should be your starting point, and their Mayfair martini (Belvedere Smogóry Forest, Reyka, Carpano Dry, olive, and piccalilli) is next level. In fall 2024, they launched an afternoon tea service from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday to Sunday—ensuring a transportive experience that’s fitting for such a charming space.

Part of the allure of The Marigold Club is the tableside service—during dessert, they’ll roll a mobile cart to your table to help you create the ultimate ice cream sundae. But well before that, the menu is brimming with rich and elegant dishes, starting with caviar service and oysters as well as gougères puffed up with 8-year aged cheddar. Snacks include marinated olives and piccalilli (pickled onion, carrot, celery, and tomato) while starters might be a country pâté or a plate of fish “not” chops, which are delightfully crispy fried scallops, oysters, and shrimp. The tuna tartare is lush with earl grey and kohlrabi while the braised leeks pop with a sherry vinaigrette and gribiche. As for entrees, the hands-down favorite is a succulent duck wellington wrapped in a buttery, flaky crust with a maitake duxelles. The gnudi and poussin, a petite roasted chicken, are winners as well.
