Every city has a story to tell, and often, its most compelling narrative is found not in words, but in flavors. The City of Chamblee in Georgia is no different. Chamblee’s culinary scene is woven from its history, culture, and the passions of its people. Diners can truly immerse themselves in food at a variety of gems as they discover a taste of Chamblee.
After several years of working at some of the top restaurants around the world, executive chef and Owner Jared Hucks returned home to open The Alden. Recognized by the Michelin Guide as one of its recommended restaurants, The Alden offers a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere where guests can enjoy a culinary experience of delicious dishes presented with extraordinary care. The menu is created daily to celebrate local, seasonal ingredients, and features shareable options that are crafted to satisfy and excite. Guests come from around the country to experience chef Jared’s progressive, seven-course tasting menu for pescatarian, vegan, and vegetarian lovers. They also can get an exclusive behind the scenes look at how meals are prepared and sample improvised creations in an unforgettable experience.
Diners should also hop on over to Hopstix, one of Downtown Chamblee’s hotspots that combines the best of both worlds, a brewery and a creative blend of Asian-fusion dishes. Owner and brewer Andy Tan embraces fusion with dishes from all over Asia and influencing beer styles from America, England, Belgium, and Germany. Diners can enjoy a wide range of dishes such as ramen, curries, sushi, charcoal grilled skewers, dumplings, gado salads, and beer mixed with ingredients of Thai jasmine rice, chrysanthemum flowers, Japanese sencha green tea, and Southeast Asian fruits such as soursop.
Another Downtown Chamblee favorite is Bluetop. Named after a taxi stand that stood in its location in the 1950’s, owner Andy Lasky wanted to create a neighborhood hangout for foodies to enjoy. Bluetop offers American dishes such as wings, cauliflower, and sandwiches including a delicious shrimp burger and a unique approach on a sloppy Joe. Cocktails are served on tap and change with each season. Bluetop’s fast casual concept is designed for customers to order at the counter and enjoy their food and drinks quickly. Live music on the weekends in a backyard setting keeps the locals coming to this family-friendly neighborhood hangout.
Oaxaca is one of Chamblee’s newest culinary spots and its owners are committed to serving customers authentic dishes from its namesake region. Their menu features dishes straight from the southern Oaxaca region of Mexico, such as elote (grilled corn), tamales, gorditas, and Tacos al Pastor. The bar offers cocktails made with smoky mezcals and other agave spirits, and wines from Mexico and countries around Central and South America.
Get a taste of each of these restaurants plus more during A Taste of Chamblee, which is held each October in Downtown Chamblee.
