We like visiting Jackson County, NC, during Secret Season, which are the first few months of the year because with less crowds, it feels like we have the mountains to ourselves. Just a short drive away, it’s easy for us to pack our bags, hop in the car, and be on our way to discovering the secret recipe to the perfect winter getaway in Jackson County.

While here, we always take a stroll down Sylva’s Main Street to bop in and out of the boutique shops before dinner. We love the Thai food at Dalaya. Chef Kanlaya “Gun” Supachana has been recognized as a semifinalist for the prestigious James Beard Foundation Best Chef in the Southeast Award. After trying the authentic Thai curry and mango sticky rice, we know why!

In Cashiers, Library Kitchen + Bar is a must. Offering farm-to-table cuisine in an eclectic setting, it’s perfect for date night or a special dinner out with friends or family. Sit at the chef’s bar for dynamic views of the kitchen and, of course, incredible seasonal dishes.

Few things taste better than a refreshing beer after a hike, which we did many! And North Carolina boasts more craft breweries and brewpubs than any other state in the southeast, with Jackson County being home to several top-notch breweries. Each town celebrates its unique flavors and vibes. We always stop by Innovation Brewing, which has brew pubs in Sylva, Cullowhee, and Dillsboro.
