1 cocktail

    For Each Cocktail
  • 1 teaspoon superfine sugar
  • ½ ounce lime juice
  • 2 ounces lemongrass gin (recipe follows)
  • 1 (3-inch-long) splint lemongrass for garnish
  • Thin slices lemon for garnish
  • For Lemongrass Gin
  • 1 (750-ml) bottle London dry gin
  • such as Beefeater
  • 1 long stalk lemongrass
  • dry outer layer removed
  • bruised
  • Sprigs of “lemony” herbs such as savory and lemon verbena
  • About 4 inches lemon or grapefruit peel

For each cocktail

Add sugar to a mixing glass and fill with ice. Pour lime juice and gin over ice and stir well. Strain into a rocks glass with a large ice cube in it. Add lemongrass and lemon and serve.

Lemongrass Gin

Using a chopstick or a knitting needle as a guide, stuff lemongrass, herbs, and citrus peel down the neck of the gin bottle. Seal and let stand a week or more until the gin has a turbo lemon-botanical flavor.
