Pickled Apples

We are all looking for the perfect gift for the holiday season, something from the heart, something handmade. Robert Lyford of Patina Green Home and Market in McKinney, Texas has an idea for all of us exasperated gifters, Pickled Apples.

approximately 3 cups

    Ingredients
  • 2 apples, peeled and finely diced
  • ½ tablespoon chili flake
  • ½ tablespoon mustard seed
  • 1 cup cider vinegar
  • ⅔ cup water
  • ⅓ cup organic cane sugar
steps

 

  1. Place apples, chili flake and mustard seed in medium non-reactive container.
  2. Bring vinegar and water to boil in saucepan over medium heat. Add sugar and dissolve.
  3. Pour hot brine over apples and spices. Refrigerate overnight. Keeps 30 days refrigerated.
