In the fast-paced food and beverage industry, change is constant, and evolution is a necessity. The Local Palate embodies this mantra, and we are excited to share our new annual issue, Insider’s Guide to South Carolina. Previously called Tableaux, this issue was dedicated to all things Charleston, including food, drink, and fun activities, but our talented team knew it was time to expand our reach and celebrate all that the Palmetto State has to offer.
Much like this issue of the magazine, I am new to The Local Palate family, and as a resident of West Virginia, I’m hardly an expert on South Carolina. However, as I dove into this project and began exploring all reaches of the state, it quickly became apparent that South Carolina is a special place with many stories worth sharing. We debated how to encompass the entire state in this issue and decided to tackle it by region, starting in the Lowcountry and working our way through the Pee Dee, the Midlands, and the Upstate.
As you weave through the issue, you’ll find our outdoor recommendations, an overview of the arts, and where to find the best shopping according to residents, along with our curated lists of dining recommendations in each region. We also invite you to head off the beaten path to places like Pane e Vino in Hollywood and Corks, Cooks, & Books in Rock Hill and to explore the trendy dining scene and James Beard Award winner and nominees in Columbia. And don’t miss one of my personal favorites, a fascinating interview with the Wadmalaw Island hog farmer who supplies meat to some of Charleston’s most established restaurants.
Thank you for joining us on this journey, and I sincerely hope you enjoy our new issue. Much like it did for me, I hope this guide inspires you to head to South Carolina for your next adventure.
