A Taste of Chamblee Tour | Video

By: Maggie Ward

Located just northeast of Atlanta is the city of Chamblee, once a small rail town that is now the fastest growing city in Dekalb County, Georgia. The city has become an international hub with miles of global cuisines on the famed Buford Highway where flavors such as Laotian, Cantonese, and Vietnamese can be found. The city’s downtown entertainment district hosts a walkable, open container area where visitors can walk to neighborhood favorites for pizza, Asian fusion fare, a taste of world famous fried chicken, and more.

Follow local resident Wendell Scott as he tours some of Chamblee’s most exciting restaurants, bars, and culinary destinations. All of these cuisines and more can be experienced at the Taste of Chamblee on October 19, 2024.

The Alden

This is a restaurant that expresses its mission in name. The Alden translates to “old friend” or “a friend to all” in Old English, and that inspiration can be felt throughout the space created by chef Jared A. Hucks. The experience is one of taking a culinary journey through chef Hucks’ world travels and background working in the best restaurants from Sydney to Spain. Each dish expresses global flavors with local, seasonal ingredients. Book a seat at the chef’s counter for a seven-course tasting experience with chef Hucks or in the dining room to order a la carte. The Alden was named a Michelin Recommended Restaurant earlier this year, as part of Michelin’s first Atlanta Guide.

Hopstix Asian Brewpub

A staple of Chamblee’s dining scene, Hopstix Brewpub is all things “fusion,” combining the best of brewery and Asian cuisine. Born in a coastal, culturally diverse city in Indonesia, owner Andy Tan wanted to offer the fusion of flavors he grew up tasting with cuisines from China, Malaysia, Indonesia, and India featured on Hopstix’s menu. Combining that with a brewery program that embraces a variety of styles and unique ingredients results in a distinct gastropub offering something for everyone.

Chamblee Tap & Market

The newest offering to Chamblee, Chamblee Tap & Market opened this summer to provide a gathering place for locals and visitors to the entertainment district at this micro food hall. The taproom is now open with 26 taps behind the bar: 20 beer lines, four wines, and a sparkling wine-based cocktail. Coming soon will be a coffee shop and three food stalls to grab tacos or barbeque from local establishments while enjoying a lager in the comfortable space that pays homage to its industrial roots.
