Virginia Highlands Festival
A celebration of Appalachian history with a diverse collection of local eats, arts, and music.

The Virginia Highlands Festival returns for its 76th celebration this July 25th through August 3rd with over 200 individual events, promising fun for the whole family. The event will feature an arts and crafts show, voted “Best Art Show in Region” by Virginia Living Magazine readers in 2023, an antiques market, live music concerts, and more outdoor adventures like guided excursions through the wilderness. The event will also celebrate culinary arts and traditions from Abingdon, Virginia, voted Best Small Town Food Scene by USA Today in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. Guests will also have the opportunity to learn about local food and history from passionate experts.
In 1949, Robert Porterfield began a cultural experience unparalleled to our region. The Virginia Highlands Festival has continued to grow in size and scope to become a destination for tourists and a beloved regional cultural resource for the arts, history and culture of Southwest Virginia.
Guests are invited to explore all our downtown and locally-owned restaurants for a foodie celebration! Hands-on workshops, specialty nights, and opportunities to both tickle your taste buds and sharpen your own culinary skills are in the works. Details coming soon!
