Bourbon Smash

By: The Local Palate
Bourbon Smash next to a basket of citrus

Bar manager at Félix in Charleston, Hailey Knight, shares her go-to classic bourbon smash featuring sweet blueberries and peaches. Knight recommends using frozen fruit, either store-bought or fresh-to-frozen, in place of ice so the cocktails sustain their flavor even as they melt in the heat. The unexpected addition of this bourbon smash: coconut oil. Adding both tropical essence and a smoothing factor to the consistency, coconut oil serves as the unsung hero of this cocktail.
