Who doesn’t love to plant themselves on the couch with a platter of dips and dishes to scarf down while watching a show? I know I love this entertaining activity and something we always need on the table is a french onion dip. It is a necessity to have a french onion dip on any platter because it is the perfect balance of salty and savory to pair with chips or vegetables.
4 yellow onions, chopped
2 tablespoons butter
½ cup white wine
1 teaspoon Worcestershire
1½ teaspoons onion powder
¾ tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon fresh thyme
1¼ cups green onions
Salt to taste
4 cups sour cream
¼ cups cream cheese
2 cups mayonnaise
Saltine crackers, ruffled potato chips, and crudité for serving
- In a pan over medium heat, caramelize onions in butter. Add wine and cook until reduced by half. Stir in Worcestershire, onion powder, garlic powder, and thyme, then transfer mixture to a large mixing bowl and set aside to cool.
- Once mixture is cooled, stir in green onions and add salt to taste. Fold in sour cream, cream cheese, and mayonnaise and mix until well-combined. Serve with Saltines, ruffled potato chips, and crudité.
