I developed this recipe to be simple, using just three liquid ingredients. It’s easy to customize to your own tastes. For example, my husband likes it on the sweeter side, so I add more agave to his. I like mine tarter, so I add more lime juice. When I’m not in the mood to make the fancy salt-sugar rim, I simply add a pinch of salt to the cocktail shaker, which makes all the flavors pop.

Makes 1 mocktail
2 tsp salt, for the rim
1 tsp sugar, for the rim Lime wedge, for the rim 2 oz high-quality zero-proof tequila
½ oz fresh lime juice
⅓ oz agave nectar or maple syrup
Lime slice, for garnish

- To prepare the glass, sprinkle the salt and sugar onto a small plate.
- Wipe the lime wedge around the edge of a cocktail glass, then dip the rim into the salt and sugar mixture.
- In a cocktail shaker, add the tequila, lime juice, and agave.
- Add ice and shake until chilled.
- Strain into a cocktail glass with crushed ice and garnish with a lime slice.
