“People always ask me, ‘I like whiskey, I like old fashioneds, what else should I drink?’ Why mess with what you like?” beverage educator Tiffanie Barriere says. To add a little oomph to your usual without straying too far, she suggests experimenting with the buttery sweetness of maple syrup.

Serves 1

    Ingredients
  • ½ ounce maple syrup
  • 4 heavy dashes Angostura bitters
  • 2½ ounces whiskey
  • Garnish: Orange peel
steps

In a rocks glass, slowly stir together syrup and bitters. Add whiskey and a large ice cube; slowly stir for 30 seconds. Garnish with an orange peel.
