Georgia’s coffee scene has grown far beyond the neighborhood café with a ’90s vibe. Today, the best coffee shops in the state pair inspired design with locally made pastries and an ambiance that makes you want to hang out for a bit. Of course, the drinks deliver, too. From Atlanta roasters pushing the craft forward to small-town cafés worth a road trip, these Georgia coffee shops are worth exploring one latte at a time
East Pole Coffee
Atlanta
East Pole opened its original location, which doubles as its roastery, in 2017. It’s off the beaten path in Armour Yards, an industrial district that’s become increasingly cooler with additions like East Pole, Capella Cheese, and Painted Pickle. The café is worth seeking out for its beautifully designed space, complete with subtle nautical touches like brass accents and navy blue details, as well as its expertly prepared coffee. The classics shine here, whether you’re ordering a latte or an Americano, but the seasonal menu is always worth a look. If you buy a bag of coffee beans, you’ll even get a complimentary hot or iced drip coffee.

Laylo
Chamblee
Chamblee has become one of metro Atlanta’s most exciting dining destinations, and Laylo is among its standout newcomers. Located on the ground floor of an apartment building, the café couples chic design with an impressive coffee and pastry program. The space draws inspiration from Southeast Asia with concrete walls, soft curves, and a warm, minimalist aesthetic. While the coffee is excellent—the shop roasts its own beans on-site—many visitors find themselves captivated by the pastry case. The most eye-catching treats resemble cozy sweaters and balls of yarn, though they’re actually layered mousse cakes. The eclairs and croissants are just as delightful. Co-owner and pastry chef Chelsea Kim collaborates with Korean café Le Montblanc to create the signature knit cakes, while the rest of the pastry lineup showcases her own creations.

Origin Coffee
Savannah
Located just outside Savannah’s busiest tourist areas and close to SCAD, Origin Coffee began as a mobile espresso bar in 2020 before growing into a bright, modern café. The spacious, sun-filled shop often buzzes with students and locals alike. Hungry? Grab a pastry from local favorite Auspicious Baking Co. or choose from breakfast offerings like chia pudding and egg sandwiches. The creative seasonal drinks are the real draw, however, with options like a stone fruit flat white or a sparkling strawberry matcha.
Mountain Mama’s Coffee
Blue Ridge
Should you find yourself in the North Georgia mountains—perhaps for a Cuban sandwich at Rum Cake Lady Cuban Cafe—Mountain Mama’s has your caffeine fix. The cozy Blue Ridge café mixes vintage furniture, Moroccan-inspired tile, and a retro color palette to create an eclectic, welcoming atmosphere. Housemade syrups elevate the specialty drinks, making creations like the Mangocano with mango cold foam, or the cold brew with cherry and vanilla syrups topped with honey cream, must-orders. That said, there’s nothing wrong with sticking to a classic drip coffee, especially alongside one of the café’s excellent housemade pastries. Visiting for breakfast? Order the sourdough waffles, available with toppings like the “flower fields,” featuring lemon and coconut chips, or the savory “mountain man” with sausage and cheese.
Tallulah 1882
Tallulah Falls
If you’re planning to tackle the 1,099 steps at nearby Tallulah Gorge, fuel up here before your hike—or reward yourself afterward. Tallulah 1882 fits seamlessly into its North Georgia surroundings with dark wood accents, abundant houseplants, and antique touches. The café brews beans from Marietta’s Cool Beans Coffee Roasters and serves creative drinks like the fireside s’mores latte. Tea drinkers are equally well served with selections from Garden & Forage Organic Teas. Be sure to save room for one of the housemade baked goods, whether it’s a savory mini tomato pie or a sweet cinnamon twist.
