While you may be familiar with Hotel Bennett as one of Charleston’s newer downtown hotels and perhaps the most grandiose lodging on the peninsula, what you may not know is that in addition to boasting iconic architecture and envied real estate, inside Hotel Bennett lives a collection of divine epicurean destinations.
The most famous of which is Charleston’s premier champagne bar, Camellias. The stunning pink bar with its etched-mirror ceiling and crystal chandelier is one of the most sought-after snaps for Instagram in the city. The pink hue even pays homage to the former library where Hotel Bennett now stands, using reclaimed pink marble on tabletops and the bar. Afternoon Tea is served every weekend, but be sure to plan ahead as seatings are reservation only. If popping in for a glass of bubbles is more your style, Camellias is first come first serve Monday through Thursday 4 to 10 pm and Friday through Saturday 5 pm to midnight.
Just across the lobby is Hotel Bennett’s signature restaurant, Gabrielle. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Gabrielle’s menu explores the pathways of the South’s fresh bounty with bold and flavorful dishes under the direction of executive chef Edward Kano, whose decades as executive chef at Four Seasons hotels around the world shines through in seasonal details. Gabrielle truly captures the spirit of Charleston through genuine hospitality, a lively indoor bar and dining room, as well as the city’s finest outdoor dining terrace which overlooks historic Marion Square. Plus, the lounge hosts local musicians every Friday and Saturday from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.
La Pâtisserie is a little slice of Paris right in the heart of King Street. The hotel’s chic French bakery serves the Holy City’s finest coffee, pastries, hot breakfast items, and the most delectable treats imaginable by renowned French pastry chef Rémy Fünfrock. The café’s inviting ambiance makes you feel like you’re enjoying a croissant in a quaint European neighborhood.
Rounding out this epicurean journey is Fiat Lux, a rooftop bar with spectacular views of the peninsula. Located on the ninth floor of the hotel, this hidden gem is the perfect spot to kick back with specialty seasonal cocktails and enjoy the panoramic views. From sunset sips or a nightcap above the city lights, Fiat Lux really sets the scene to make lasting memories for travelers and locals alike.
