For one night only, chefs and mixologists from the Queen City are taking over restaurants in the Holy City for a dining experience you won’t want to miss. On Thursday, Nov. 14, the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority (CRVA) is bringing the flavors and spirits from five of Charlotte’s most celebrated culinary artists to some of Charleston’s most popular restaurants to showcase their talents to diners down south.
Indulge in curated dinner menus and cocktail pairings at participating restaurants and discover why Charlotte is a must-visit destination for epicurean adventurers. This evening of culinary collaboration offers Charlotte chefs the opportunity to work with chefs in some of Charleston’s distinguished kitchens such as Edmund’s Oast, a James Beard Foundation semifinalist for Best New Restaurant, and The Ordinary, a Best New Restaurant nominee. The end result is a delectable union of flavors in technique that you can enjoy.
Here’s who’s partaking in this tasty takeover:
Sorelle
Chef Sam Hart, Counter- | Mixologist Colleen Hughes, Supperland
Charlotte native Sam Hart is the executive chef and owner of Counter-, a multi-sensory, tasting-menu focused restaurant. Much like Sorelle chef and founder Michael Mina, who has received several accolades from the prestigious James Beard Foundation, Hart has been nominated for Best Chef: Southeast.
The Grocery
Chef Kaley Laird, Mimosa Grill | Mixologist Brittany Kellum, Fin & Fino
Kaley Laird is a classically trained pastry chef, as well as an advocate for sustainable cooking and farm to table. Chef Laird sources seasonal, local produce to create dishes that are rich in flavor. The Grocery operates under a similar philosophy, highlighting ingredients from area farmers, anglers and foragers.
The Ordinary
Chef Joe Kindred, Kindred | Mixologist Larry Suggs, Ramble Drinkery
Chef Joe Kindred is a five-time James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef, earning praise for his namesake restaurant Kindred. The chef and restaurateur also owns Hello, Sailor overlooking Lake Norman, with a contemporary Mediterranean concept and a third location for his popular café Milkbread coming to Uptown Charlotte later this year.
Edmund’s Oast
Chef Greg Collier, 3rd & Fernwood | Mixologist Mena Killough, Vinyl
Chef Greg Collier is no stranger to cooking in a top-tier establishment like Edmund’s Oast. One of his restaurants, Leah & Louise, was ranked one of Esquire’s Best New Restaurants in America in 2020. Collier himself has also earned recognition from the James Beard Foundation as a semifinalist for Best Chef and Outstanding Chef. Call the restaurant to make reservations for this dinner at (843) 727-1145.
Southbound
Chef Shai Fargian, YAFO Kitchen | Mixologist Nadira Martin, Lorem Ipsum
Southbound’s live-fire cooking fills the restaurant with the aromas of freshly charred herbs and spices. The thoughtfully crafted Mediterranean cuisine that Charlotte chef Shai Fargian creates at YAFO Kitchen uses an array of flavorful herbs, spices and ingredients that are sure to entice the senses.
