Where to go (and what to do between bites) the next time you’re in Dunwoody.
When I moved to Dunwoody nearly seven years ago, I appreciated its proximity to the city — it is called the Perimeter, after all — and Buford Highway. I wasn’t so sure about Dunwoody’s food scene, yet. In the time since, however, I’ve watched the city take shape and now there are new, exciting spots mingling with classic institutions. There are also shops and parks worth exploring to round out a visit to the suburb. Here’s where to go (and what to do in between bites) the next time you’re in Dunwoody.
Dunwoody’s Best Kept Secrets
NFA Burger
What started as a hobby for Billy Kramer evolved into a local phenomenon, to the benefit of Atlantans. Kramer documented his favorite burgers around America on his corporate work travels, but eventually tried perfecting his own burger-making craft which led to pop-ups around town. He opened NFA Burger in a Chevron gas station in 2019. The only seats are outdoor picnic tables, but that doesn’t stop throngs of burger lovers from lining up for the “classic,” a double patty with olives, American cheese, mustard, and ‘Sassy sauce’ on a potato roll. The crispy tots are also a must-order, and if you’re not in a burger mood, go for the Jersey dog topped with pickles and ‘Sassy sauce’.

E. 48th Street Market

Located in a nondescript strip mall, E. 48th Street has stood the test of time. The family-run market opened in 1986, and has lured locals with its Italian provisions, including frozen pastas, deli meats, sauces, and cookies, since 1986. The real stars, however, are the Italian sandwiches served on freshly baked bread. Popular options include the number 7, the Stoffato, with salami, mortadella, capicola, and provolone, with lettuce and special sauce and the number 13 with soppressata, lettuce, roasted peppers, and mozzarella. I never leave without a cannoli.
Valor Coffee
When Valor opened its Dunwoody outpost (the original is in Alpharetta) in 2023, it brought a much needed breath of fresh air. Locals quickly lined up — and haven’t stopped since. Valor roasts its beans in Roswell and serves a range of coffee drinks from classics like cappuccinos and lattes, to creative, seasonal concoctions. They also make their syrups in house. The shop itself is a vibe with ample natural light, plants, guests chit chatting at tables, and high-energy music pumping through the speakers. Afterwards, head next door for a visit to Prelude Bookstore with offerings for adults and kids.
Cuddlefish
Set in the High Street development, Cuddlefish awes with its beautifully designed space — part restaurant, part coffee shop — where green tiles and oversized floral wallpaper sets the backdrop. Owned by the team behind Michelin-starred O by Brush, Cuddlefish showcases temaki, also known as hand rolls. The plump hand rolls come in a variety of options including yellowtail and salsa, salmon and avocado, and shrimp katsu with pineapple and cantaloupe. While you’re there, grab a coffee and pastry from the cafe.

Zukerino Pastry Shop
Zukerino hides behind a Dunkin’ Donuts, but it’s worth seeking out for all things dessert. The family-owned bakery specializes in Greek pastries like baklava and spanakopita. They’re also known for their beautifully decorated cakes — in varieties like carrot and cannoli — as well as other desserts like tiramisu and cheesecake.
Barn
An ideal Dunwoody early evening is spent on the patio of Barn, located on a courtyard in Dunwoody Village. The restaurant excels at charcuterie boards and bar food, like pretzel bites with beer cheese and pigs in a blanket, as well as refreshing cocktails. This is the place to go to catch a game on the big screen, and they host fun events throughout the year like line dancing nights and trivia.
Novo Cucina
With an airy dining room and patio, Novo Cucina offers a laidback atmosphere that’s ideal for families and groups of friends alike. Standouts at the Italian restaurant include fried artichokes, the lasagnette with beef bolognese (it’s like lasagna, but deconstructed), and tagliatelle with a porcini cream sauce. Whether you dine or grab takeout, don’t miss the incredibly rich house-made gelato.
Other things to do:
If you’re in Dunwoody, extend your visit with a stop at Brook Run Park with 100 acres of paved trails, playgrounds, a skatepark, and a dog park. Also check out the Dunwoody Nature Center with walking trails through the woods, a playground, and wetlands.
