DC-based rum distiller Cotton & Reed loves this version because it features the baking spice character of our Gold Rum while still reading true to form. Note: Cotton & Reed macerate their house bitters with some coconut flakes and lime leaves for a little extra oomph and flavor, but plain Angostura and orange bitters will work just fine.

½ ounce Cotton & Reed Gold Rum
½ ounce Maker’s 46 Bourbon
¼ ounce cane syrup
2 dashes Coconut Angostura Bitters
2 dashes Lime Leaf Orange Bitters*
Garnish: Expressed orange twist

- Add the bitters and cane syrup to a glass, stir to combine.
- Fill with ice. Add the rum and bourbon and stir until chilled.
- Strain into a rocks glass.
- Express the oil of an orange twist over the top of the glass, then place the twist inside the glass. Serve.
